Introducing progressive essentials created in the brand’s Paris Atelier.    

UNIQLO will launch a special collection created in partnership with the brand’s Paris R&D Center on Thursday, February 16. Known simply as Uniqlo U, the new Spring/Summer collection will be available at Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue store and online at UNIQLO.com beginning Wednesday, February 15 at 9PM.

Uniqlo U serves as a design laboratory for the brand. It allows UNIQLO’s designers to experiment with advanced materials, innovative techniques and unique shapes. At the same time, it is intended to empower UNIQLO’s customers to explore new fabrics, designs and silhouettes. This special collection embodies UNIQLO’s LifeWear philosophy of creating high-quality clothing that is universal in design and comfort, made for everyone, everywhere.

Led by designer Christophe Lemaire, Uniqlo U pushes the edges of functionality and style. It is a collection of progressive essentials. “By reinventing basics, Uniqlo U will provide a platform to inform many of the brand’s core product designs, while the successes of its core products will also inspire new design for Uniqlo U,” stated Shu Hung, UNIQLO’s Global Creative Director of Brand Experience. “The collection is more daring when it comes to shapes and style, while providing newness, accessibility and good design.”

The full Spring/Summer line will be available at flagship stores in Chicago and New York City, and at UNIQLO.com. Parts of the range will be sold at ten additional stores across the U.S.* There will be 62 women’s items, 43 men’s items, and 7 unisex items.

The Uniqlo U Spring/Summer collection extends from such basics as jackets, dresses, and T-shirts to Ultra Light Down jackets that incorporate a new fabric that feels like cotton, as well as new swimwear and rash guards. Innovations include men’s lightweight jackets and pants with breathable and water-repellent fabrics.

The UNIQLO Paris R&D Center complements other UNIQLO research and development centers in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, and Los Angeles. While functioning as concept design and product development facilities, these units also gather information on local fashion trends, lifestyles and new materials. The world-class designers and pattern makers in the Paris design team are contributing significantly to the ongoing evolution of LifeWear through their advances with Uniqlo U.
