Shutterbug
In our Shutterbug section we spotlight creative photographer D. Brown, located in the longhorn state of Texas.
Andrew: In your body of work I see a large amount of shots utilizing only sunlight and diffused sunlight, is there a specific reason for you using that photography technique?
D. Brown: I started out using natural light, because I couldn’t afford any type of artificial light at the time. Using natural light is great, because it can be flattering to the subject. You can also see what you get so you can control the light better. I do mix lighting when I need to fill in shadows.
Andrew: For the photographers looking to switch from hobby to career can you think of things to do and NOT to do in that process?
D. Brown: Things to do would be to learn your craft, make sure you’re really passionate about it, and make sure you learn the business as much as you can. These are 3 vital things I think an aspiring photographer should learn before heading into a photography career. The things I believe not to do are, to ignore these 3 things I just mentioned.
Andrew: Do you prefer prime lenses or zoom lenses?
D. Brown: No, I like using both lenses. My favorite lense would be a simple 50 mm lens.
Andrew: How do you define your success as a photographer?
D. Brown: My success is having a job that I have great passion for, and in life it’s sometimes is just that simple.
